Opinion Article: Reversal of Royalties

October 1, 2010

Most people know that the majority of writers don’t make a whole lot of money, unless they write many bestsellers–but that happens relatively infrequently.  We can’t all be J. K. Rowling, after all.  So when I came across this article from the Writer’s Digest Facebook newsfeed, I was immediately interested.  A reversal of royalties?  Whatever could that mean, and how would that benefit writers?

But after reading the article, I find that the writer makes a number of good points and raises some interesting ideas.  If something like this were to take place, it would revolutionize the traditional publisher as well as make traditional publishing more viable to all parties.  Obviously there would be many things to talk over and work out, but the idea is certainly an intriguing one.
