A.L. Butcher (Alexandra) is a British author of fantasy and fantasy romance, whose work has been described as ‘gritty’ and ‘lyrical’.  Aside from writing she is an avid reader, animal lover, and amateur historian.

Science Fiction and Fantasy, two genres that are both unalike and inextricably entwined, stretching the imagination to the expansive boundaries of time, space, and magic. These boundaries are often filled with warriors and war, fights and causes worth fighting for, and that’s what you’ll find in this anthology.

From fighting aliens in space to demons in a world of magic, you’ll find many stories to suit your starship’s entertainment collection or your favorite bard at the local tavern…or just your imagination here and now. Sit back and enjoy twelve stories from authors both familiar and new!

100% of the proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Why did you choose to self-publish?

Self-publishing gives an author a lot of freedom, you have more flexible deadlines, don’t have to split the royalties, and allows for a wide variety of work to come to public notice. Many SPAs choose the route for that reason, or have not been able to find a suitable publisher – many of whom only publish a certain number of books a year.  Quite a few of the SPA books I have read have been great, but have an element that a traditional publisher might reject as not popular at that time. Of course the downsides are there – there is no one to help with marketing or offer guidance and there is still a lot of prejudice against self-published books.

Which authors or books influenced your writing the most?

Oh gosh, as I’ve said I read a lot, in many genres so it would be hard to name them all. I suppose if I have to pull names out of hat –Alexandre Dumas, Gaston Leroux, Bronte sisters, Janet Morris, J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, David Gaidar, Ellis Peters, Richard Adams, Douglas Adams, E. A. Poe…. The list goes on.

Favourite books? In no particular order: Phantom of the Opera, Count of Monte Cristo, Wuthering Heights, I, the Sun, Soul Music, The Sacred Band, Reaper Man, Night Watch, Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion, Mystery of the Yellow Room, Cadfael books….

What are your current projects / What are you working on next?

I’m currently working on Book III of the Light Beyond the Storm Chronicles and a few short stories.  I’m hoping to publish Book III by the end of the year but as I haven’t finished the first draft I best get a wriggle on!  I’m also working on an adult fantasy erotica series with another author but we don’t yet have publication dates.

Anything else you would like to mention?

Yes please! I’d like to mention Bellator, a fantasy sci-fi anthology written to support Wounded Warrior Project. I have a co-authored story – “Beyond the Walls” – which is a fantasy tale of war, love and determination. It was released on 4th August.

Tales of Erana is also available in audio, and I am hoping to release the novel in audio next year.
